WLTP and EPA are official laboratory test procedures used to describe a vehicle's efficiency and range. They make it easier to compare cars tested under the same system, but neither number is a promise for every road, season or driving style.

Why the numbers differ
The two procedures use different assumptions and driving profiles. An EPA result is often lower than a WLTP result for the same car, so comparing one directly with the other can be misleading.
When choosing between cars, compare WLTP with WLTP or EPA with EPA. If the test cycle is unavailable, treat the figure as a useful reference rather than a precise estimate.
Use range as one part of the decision
A car with a lower official range can still be the better fit if it charges quickly where you travel, costs less or suits your everyday space needs. Combine range with charging, battery and your own charging access.
Real driving changes the result
Higher speeds, cold weather, a strong headwind, steep roads and cabin heating or cooling all use more energy. City driving can sometimes be kinder to range because an electric car recovers energy while slowing down, but the result still depends on traffic and temperature.
Use the official figure as a common starting point, then leave a buffer for the conditions you expect. If you regularly make winter motorway journeys, a comfortable margin matters more than extracting the last kilometre from a laboratory result.
Keep comparisons fair
A difference between test cycles is not proof that one manufacturer is more optimistic than another. It usually means the cars were measured under different rules. When a source does not identify the cycle, Ampuno keeps the value available but does not treat it as directly comparable with a named cycle.
For a shortlist, start by comparing figures from the same test method, then consider usable battery capacity, rapid-charging capability and the places you can charge. That gives a more useful picture than range alone.
